ConnectLife is Western New York’s only community blood bank which means every drop of blood donated remains local, here in WNY. The organization supplies about 70% of the local blood supply and is the sole supplier of blood products to ECMC, Oishei Children’s Hospital, Buffalo General Hospital, and Millard Filmore Suburban Hospital, in addition to supporting other Buffalo area hospitals.

The community blood bank stresses the importance and need for volunteer blood donors stating that 1 in 7 people entering local hospitals need blood products for situations such as traumas, chronic illnesses, clotting disorders, and mothers delivering newborn babies. There is no substitute for life-saving blood products and the only way to ensure there is a steady supply on local hospital shelves is through volunteer donations.

“As we turn to the holiday season, consider giving the gift of life and donating blood,” encourages Melanie Brem, account executive with ConnectLife. “Your selfless act may very well save a neighbor right here at home.” It is important to note that the holiday season is a time of year when donations are down due to so additional commitments.
